December is a month to relax, reflect & review the year’s progress, and for many cultures it is time for celebration. Many begin to start decorating their homes with festive décor, welcome family into their homes for meals, gifts, and quality time.

Over the years, we have seen the transition from saying ‘Merry Christmas’ to colleagues, friends, retail workers and those we pass in the streets, to ‘Happy Holidays’, and this if for good reason because there is so much that happens in December and Christmas is just one of those celebrations.

Did you know that December observes all of the following?:

The Winter Solstice

Christmas

Kwanzaa (Beginning days)

Hanukkah (Last days)

Boxing Day

Festivus

New Year’s Eve

In addition to these Holidays, December observes a number of days recognizing various groups of individuals & celebrations:

World AIDS Day (Dec. 1)

National Bartender Day (Dec. 3)

International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Dec. 3)

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day (Dec. 7)

International Human Rights Day (Dec 10)

National Salespersons Day (Dec. 13)

National Thank You Note Day (Dec. 26)

December has been called “The Season of Giving” which echoes our philosophy of Givers Gain. Getting to know more about our members, the holidays and days of celebrations that are important to them and recognizing them adds to our credibility through inclusivity!

As a diverse community of entrepreneurs, sales professionals & business owners, we can take note of the seven primary principles of Kwanzaa to assist in shaping our business and personal goals.

· Umoja (Unity)

· Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)

· Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)

· Nia (Purpose)

· Kuumba (Creativity)

· Imani (Faith)

· Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility)

May the New Year hold increase, hope, and renewed energy for all!
